For just one night only and thanks to local, national and international artists, musicians and performers, Melbourne will come alive!
Through the use of lighting, exhibitions, street performances, film, music, dance and interactive events the artists will showcase their creativity through the city’s parklands, laneways, public spaces and cultural institutions.
White Night (Nuit Blanche) was first established in Paris in 2002. However, as an innovative city, Melbourne welcomed the event in 2013. It was an instant success, with 300 000 people enjoying the all night event. Annually since then, an average of 500 000 people have ventured into Melbourne’s CBD to witness the city come alive in what has become one of the key cultural events on the Australian calendar.
Enlighten– a collaboration between award-winning physical theatre company Born in a Taxi, lighting visionary Bruce Ramus and sculptor David Murphy.
Lonsdale Lounge Cinema– From 7pm until 11pm, the Lonsdale Lounge Cinema will feature films designed for the family and with a focus on kids; then, from 11pm onwards, films for an older audience will screen.
David Hockney Exhibition– The exhibition, curated by the NGV in collaboration with David Hockney and his studio, features over 1200 works from the past decade of the artist’s career – some new and many never-before-seen in Australia – including paintings, digital drawings, photography and video works.
